Joyce DiDonato has canceled her performances on Friday and Saturday in Santiago, Chile due to the violence currently taking place in the country.

The soprano made the announcement via social media, noting that her performance in Sao Paolo on Wednesday would be dedicated to those who lost their lives.

“With a very heavy heart, our concert of ‘In War & Peace’ scheduled for Friday in Santiago, Chile has been cancelled. Tonight, in Saõ Paulo, I dedicate my performance to you and to those who have lost their lives,” stated.

Chile is currently in a state of emergency after protests and riots broke out across the country with a reported 70 incidents of violence on Sunday following the announcement that public transport costs would be increased. The move has since been reversed by the country’s president, but the violence has only escalated since.

DiDonato is set to resume her “In War and Peace” concert with Il Pomo d’Oro in Buenos Aires on Oct. 28 and 30, followed by presentations in the United States in early November.
