Joyce DiDonato, Juan Diego Flórez, Aleksandra Kurzak Headline Opernhaus Zürich Streams Throughout January & February

Opernhaus Zürich will broadcast three operas on MEZZO TV throughout January and February 2021.

First up will be Bellini’s operatic jewel “I Capuleti e i Montecchi” featuring Joyce DiDonato in the role of Romeo, Olga Kulchynska as Giulietta, Benjamin Bernheim in the role of Tebaldo, Alexei Botnarciuc as Capellio, and Erik Anstine as Lorenzo.

Opernhaus Zürich’s General Music Director Fabio Luisi conducts the production by Christof Loy. The opera was filmed on June 21, 2015.

Streaming dates: Jan. 30 & 31, Feb 5, 10, 11, 12, 13, 16 & 19. The stream can be viewed here.

Massenet’s “Werther” will follow. The opera stars Anna Stéphany in the role of Charlotte, Audun Iversen as Albert, Mélissa Petit in the role of Sophie, Cheyne Davidson as Le Bailli, Martin Zysset as Schmidt, and Juan Diego Flórez in the title role. Cornelius Meister conducts the Philharmonia Zürich in the production by Tatjana Gürbaca. The opera was filmed on April 1, 2017.

The final opera in the streaming slate is Verdi’s “Rigoletto.” The opera stars Saimir Pirgu as Duca di Mantua, Aleksandra Kurzak in the role of Gilda, Andrea Mastroni as Sparafucile, Judith Schmid as Maddalena, and George Petean in the title role.

Opernhaus Zürich’s General Music Director Fabio Luisi conducts the production by Tatjana Gürbaca. The opera was filmed on June 21, 2014.
