Opéra National du Rhin in Strasbourg, France has announced its 2021-22 season. Here is the full slate.
Operas
Hans Abrahamsen’s “The Snow Queen” will spotlight Lauren Snouffer, Rachael Wilson, Helena Rasker, David Leigh, Michael Smallwood, Owen Willetts, Floriane Derthe, and Moritz Kallenberg. Robert Houssart conducts the production by James Bonas.
Performance Dates: Sept. 15 – Oct. 3, 2021
Jonathan Tetelman stars in Verdi‘s “Stiffelio” alongside Hrachuhí Bassénz, Dario Solari, Tristan Blanchet, and Önay Köse. Andrea Sanguineti conducts the production by Bruno Ravella.
Performance Dates: Oct. 10 – Nov. 9, 2021
Bizet‘s “Carmen” will star Stéphanie d’Oustrac and Antoinette Dennefeld in the title role. They will be joined by Edgaras Montvidas as Don José, Régis Mengus as Escamillo, and Amina Edris as Micaëla. The cast is rounded out by Guilhem Worms, Judith Fa, Séraphine Cotrez, Anas Séguin, Christophe Gay, and Raphaël Brémard. Marta Gardolińska conducts the production by Jean-François Sivadier.
Performance Dates: Dec. 2, 2021 – Jan. 9, 2022
Ravel’s “L’Enfant et les sortilèges” features Brenda Poupard, Lauranne Oliva, Floriane Derthe, Liying Yang, Elsa Roux Chamoux, Damian Arnold, Damien Gastl, and Oleg Volkov. Didier Puntos conducts the production by Emilie Capliez.
Performance Dates: Dec. 15, 2021 – May 20, 2022
Walter Braunfels’ rarely performed work “Die Vögel” will star Marie-Ève Munger, Tuomas Katajala, Cody Quattlebaum, Josef Wagner, Christoph Pohl, Julie Goussot, and Antoin Herrera-López Kessel. Sora Elisabeth Lee and Aziz Shokhakimov conduct the production by Ted Huffman.
Performance Dates: Jan. 19 – Feb. 22, 2022
The company will perform the world premiere of Howard Moody’s “Moon Dreamers” which will be conducted by the composer. The opera is set to star Floriane Derthe, Brenda Poupard, Damian Arnold, and Oleg Volkov in the production by Sandra Pocceschi and Giacomo Strada.
Performance Dates: Feb. 20 – March 19, 2022
Manuel de Falla’s “El amor brujo” and Leoš Janáček‘s “The Diary of One Who Disappeared” will be performed in a double bill that will star Rocío Márquez, Magnus Vigilius, and Josy Santos. Łukasz Borowicz conducts the production by Daniel Fish.

Mozart‘s “Così fan tutte” will star Gemma Summerfield, Ambroisine Bré, Lauryna Bendžiūnaitė, Jack Swanson, Björn Bürger, and Nicolas Cavallier. Duncan Ward conducts the production by David Hermann.
Performance Dates: April 14 – May 15, 2022
Monteverdi‘s “L’Orfeo” will be performed in a concert version and will feature Valerio Contaldo, Mariana Florès, Giuseppina Bridelli, Anna Reinhold, Alejandro Meerapfel, Andreas Wolf, Alessandro Giangrande, Leandro Marziotte, Nicholas Scott, Matteo Bellotto, Philippe Favette, and Estelle Lefort. Leonardo García Alarcón conducts.
Performance Dates: May 3 – 4, 2022
The season comes to a close with Leonard Bernstein‘s famed musical “West Side Story.” Madison Nonoa, Jeffrey Kringer, and Gabrielle McClinton star. David Charles Abell conducts the production by Barrie Kosky and Otto Pichler.

Baritone Stéphane Degout will perform works by Mahler, Berg, Schumann, Pfitzner, Poulenc and Fauré.

“Au pays de Totoro” showcases sopranos Nathalie Gaudefroy and Susan Griffiths, and mezzo-soprano Laurence Hunckler-ElMoncef.

Tenor Lawrence Brownlee will perform works by Rossini, Bellini, Verdi, Marx, Ginastera, and Moore alongside pianist Giulio Zappa.

“Quatre plus quatre” spotlights Clémence Baïz, Stella Oïkonomou, Laurent Roos, and Dominic Burns. Manon Parmentier and Alessandro Zuppardo will accompany on piano.

Baritone Konstantin Krimmel will give a recital, performing works by Schubert, Loewe, Schumann and Liszt.
