By Francisco Salazar

Joseph Calleja’s new album “The Magic of Mantovani” has topped Amazon UK’s opera charts.

The album beat Russel Watson’s “20” and a recording of Mozart’s Mass in C minor to the top spot.

The new album showcases Calleja bringing back to life original Decca recordings of works by the celebrated Anglo-Italian conductor and his orchestra. Mantovani is considered the most successful album artist before the Beatles and whose his records included the famous Liverpool anthem “You’ll Never Walk Alone.”

Additionally, Mantovani sold over 60 million records and was the first artist to sell one million stereo records worldwide.

Calleja’s new album marks the latest in a long-standing relationship with Decca Classics. The tenor has released several albums for the company including a Verdi album, “A Tribute to Mario Lanza,” and “The Golden Voice.”
