José Carreras Named President of Fausto Ricci International Singing Competition

The Fausto Ricci International Opera Singing Competition has announced that José Carreras will be President of the Jury for the eighth edition.

Carreras is a renowned tenor who performed at all the major opera companies including the Metropolitan Opera, Royal Opera House, Teatro alla Scala, Wiener Staatsoper, Gran Teatro del Liceu, and San Francisco Opera. He is also the president of the José Carreras International Leukemia Foundation and was one of the members of the famed Three Tenors alongside Plácido Domingo and Luciano Pavarotti.

Carreras will serve with a jury that includes Fabrizio Bastianini, Renato Bonajuto, Massimo Bonelli, Maria Chiara Camponeschi, Fabrizio Maria Carminati, Salvatore Cordella, Marcello Iozzia, Plamen Kartaloff, Giovanna Lomazzi, Andrea Merli, Elena Rizzo, and Gianni Tangucci.

The competition was created to honor baritone Fausto Ricci in two categories, Emerging Voices and Opera Roles.

Among the recognized singers, who have presided over the festival are Fiorenza Celodins, Fiorenza Cossotto, Désirée Rancatore, and Luciana Serra

The competition is scheduled to take place at the Teatro Unione di Viterbo, Italy, on Oct. 16 and 18, 2020
