Jose Carreras, Juan Pons, & Jaume Aragall To Honor Montserrat Caballé In Barcelona

Jose Carreras, Juan Pons, and Jaume Aragall are set to honor Montserrat Caballé in a gala at the Gran Teatre del Liceu entitled “La sonrisa de Montserrat Caballé.”

The homage to the great late Spanish soprano will be on April 12, the soprano’s birthday and it set to be presented on TV3 y Catalunya Radio.

In addition to Carreras, Pons, and Aragall, Paata Burchuladze, Isabel Rey, and María Gallego will perform. The company will also showcase videos with messages from Plácido Domingo, Teresa Berganza, Juan Diego Flórez, Ainhoa Arteta, Riccardo Muti, Zubin Mehta, Valery Gergiev, Pretty Yende, and Roberto Alagna.

Lluís Pasqual will direct the gala while Guillermo García Calvo conducts the evening’s proceedings.

Caballé died last year at the age of 85 and was honored throughout the opera world for her great contributions. A street was recently named after in Barcelona and Verdi Requiem was dedicated to her as well.
