José Carreras Defends Plácido Domingo

By Francisco Salazar

José Carreras has come out in defense of Plácido Domingo.

In an interview with the Portugues press, Carreras stated that throughout the years he has known Domingo, he has never seen Domingo harass any women. He stated, “I have never seen Domingo act in an incorrect way.”

Carreras is the latest performer and colleague who has come out publically to defend Domingo amid allegations of sexual misconduct. Such stars as Anna Netrebko, Sonya Yoncheva, Javier Camarena and Teresa Berganza have all come out in defense of the star.

The tenor worked alongside Domingo during the famous three tenors tour which included Luciano Pavarotti.

Domingo recently ended his relationship with the Metropolitan Opera where he performed for 51 years. Since the allegations were published by the AP, Domingo has since been fired by the Philadelphia Orchestra, Dallas Opera, and San Francisco Opera. He is set to return to the stage in October for a sold-out performance of “Nabucco” at the Opernhaus Zurich and sold-out performances of Verdi’s “Macbeth” at the Wiener Staatsoper. He is also set to perform at the Palau de les Arts, Teatro alla Scala, Royal Opera, and Berlin State Opera.
