Jonas Kaufmann, Sondra Radvanovsky & Javier Camarena Lead Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia’s 2021-22 Season

Rome’s Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia has announced its 2021-22 season featuring concert performances with some of the greatest stars in the world.

For the purposes of this article, we will focus on vocal performances only.

Concerts

Jakub Hrůša conducts Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 with Rachel Willis-Sørensen and Wiebke Lehmkuhl.

Performance Dates: Oct. 7-9, 2021

Tan Dun conducts his Budda Passion with soloists Sen Guo, Huiling Zhu, Kang Wang, and Shenyang. The work also stars Zerenyangjin, Hasibagen, and Yining Chen.

Performance Dates: Nov. 11-13, 2021

Stanislav Kochanovsky conducts Agunda Kulaeva, Alexander Mikhailov’ and Milena Vukotic in Tchaikovsky’s “La fanciulla di neve.”

Performance Dates: Dec. 16-18, 2021

Sir John Eliot Gardiner conducts Haydn’s “The Creation” with soloists Lenneke Ruiten, Giovanni Sala, and Roberto Lorenzi.

Performance Dates: Jan. 13-16, 2022

Antonio Pappano conducts a Rossini program that includes the Messa di Gloria and music from “Armida,” “Semiramide,” and “Otello.” Soloists include Eleonora Buratto, Teresa Iervolino, Javier Camarena, Michael Spyres, and Carlo Lepore.

Performance Dates: Jan. 27-29, 2022

Antonio Pappano conducts Puccini’s Messa di Gloria with Saimir Pirgu and Matteo Olivieri. The program includes Ponchielli’s “Elegia” and De Sabata’s Juventus.

Performance Dates: April 21-23, 2022

Tugan Sokhiev and Garry Magee team up for a program of Rachmaninoff, Borodin, and Tchaikovsky.

Performance Dates: May 5-7, 2022

Manfred Honeck conducts Mozart’s Requiem.

Performance Dates: May 12-14, 2022

Jakub Hrůša conducts Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9 and Janáček’s Missa Glagolitica. Soloists inlcude Kateřina Kněžíková, Jarmila Balážová, Richard Samek, and Jozef Benci.

Performance Dates: June 9-11, 2022

Chamber Music 

Federico Maria Sardelli conducts Giorgia Rotolo, Rui Hoshina, Francesca Ascioti, and Ann Hallenberg in Vivaldi’s “Juditha Triumphans.”

Performance Date: Nov. 24, 2021

La Lira di Orfeo and Raffaele Pe perform a Monteverdi recital.

Performance Date: Feb. 23, 2022

Special Events 

Riccardo Frizza and Javier Camarena celebrate Caruso’s 100th anniversary with a program of Cilea, Bizet, Donizetti, Leoncavallo, Verdi, and Puccini.

Performance Date: Dec. 22, 2021

Jonas Kaufmann and Sondra Radvanovsky make their role debuts in Puccini’s “Turandot” with Sir Antonio Pappano conducting. Ermonela Jaho, Michael Spyres, and Michele Pertusi round out the cast.

Performance Date: March 12, 2022

Lavinia Bini and Bruno Taddia perform music by Betta and Gregoretti with Francesco Lanzilotta conducting.
