On Feb. 2, 2022, following the performance of “Peter Grimes,” the Wiener Staatsoper conductor Simone Young, Jonas Kaufmann, and Sir Bryn Terfel were honored.

The company bestowed Young with the status of honorary member of the house, and presented with the Ring of Honor of the Wiener Staatsoper from Juwelier Wagner.

Meanwhile, Jonas Kaufmann and Sir Bryn Terfel were named Kammersängers.

The awards were presented on the stage in the presence of the audience and numerous colleagues by State Secretary for Art and Culture Andrea Mayer.

In a statement, Mayer noted that “the Wiener Staatsoper is committed to excellence in the field of opera. These honors were awarded with the full awareness that the unique artistic achievements of these three wonderful artists not only correspond to the excellence of the house, but that they thereby further enhance the international brilliance of this special opera house. My congratulations and I wish Simone Young, Kammersänger Bryn Terfel and Kammersänger Jonas Kaufmann all the best for their artistic future.”

“Peter Grimes” is set to be performed Feb. 8, 2022.
