Jonas Kaufmann, Saioa Hernández, Lise Davidsen & Sonya Yoncheva Lead Bayerische Staatsoper’s 2023-24 Season

The Bayerische Staatsoper has announced its 2023-24 season.

New Productions 

The first new production of the season will be Mozart’s “Le Nozze di Figaro.” Stefano Montanari conducts the production by Evgeny Titov. The cast will include Huw Montague Rendall, Mattia Olivieri, Elsa Dreisig, Maria Bengtsson, Louise Alder, Konstantin Krimmel, Avery Amereau, and Dorothea Röschmann.

Performance Dates: Oct. 30, 2023-July 17, 2024

Vladimir Jurowski and Constantin Trinks conduct Strauss’ “Die Fledermaus” in a new production by Barrie Kosky. The cast includes Georg Nigl, Diana Damrau, Martin Winkler, Andrey Nemzer, Sean Panikkar, Markus Brück, Kevin Conners, and Katharina Konradi.

Performance Dates: Dec. 23, 2023-July 31, 2024

Tchaikovsky’s “Pique Dame” will be directed by Benedict Andrews. Aziz Shokhakimov conducts a cast that includes Brandon Jovanovich, Roman Burdenko, Boris Pinkhasovich, Violeta Urmana, Asmik Grigorian, Lise Davidsen, and Victoria Karkacheva.

Performance Dates: Feb. 4, 2024-July 15, 2024

Vladimir Jurowski conducts Weinberg’s “Die Passagierin” in a new production by Tobias Kratzer. Charles Workman, Jacques Imbrailo, Louise Foor, Xenia Puskarz Thomas, Lotte Betts-Dean, Noa Beinart, Larissa Diadkova, and Jennifer France.

Performance Dates: March 10-July 16, 2024

Anja Harteros stars in a new production of Puccini’s “Tosca” by Kornél Mundruczó. Charles Castronovo, Jonas Kaufmann, and Ludovic Tézier round out the cast. Andrea Battistoni conducts.

Performance Dates: May 20-July 30, 2024

Kent Nagano conducts Ligeti’s “La Grand Macabre” in a production by Krzysztof Warlikowski. Erin Morley stars alongside Sarah Aristidou, Avery Amereau, John Holiday, Brindley Sherratt, Lindsay Ammann, and Benjamin Bruns.

Performance Dates: June 28-July 7, 2024

Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla conducts Debussy’s “Pelléas et Mélisande” with Jetske Mijnssen directing. Franz-Josef Selig, Sophie Koch, Ben Bliss, Christian Gerhaher, and Sabine Devieilhe star.

Performance Dates: July 9-22, 2024

Revivals

Daniele Rustioni will lead a production of “Carmen” with Aigul Akhmetshina, Vuvu Mpofu, Stephen Costello, and Erwin Schrott.

Christopher Moulds leads “Dido and Aeneas” with Ausrine Stundyte and Andrew Hamilton in the lead roles.

Pavol Breslik, Emily Sierra, Emily D’Angelo, Olga Kulchynska, Emily Pogorelc, Hanna-Elisabeth Müller, and Jonas Hacker headline “Idomeneo.” Christopher Moulds and Ivor Bolton conduct.

Iain Paterson, Jennifer Holloway, and Eric Cutler star in “Die Fliegende Holländer” with Lothar Koenigs conducting.

Brenda Rae, Marina Monzó, Dovlet Nurgeldiyev, Franz-Josef Selig, and Liam Bonthrone star in “Die Entführung aus dem Serail.” Ivor Bolton conducts.

Constantin Trinks conducts “Parsifal” with Christian Gerhaher, Georg Zeppenfeld, Clay Hilley, Anja Harteros, and Jochen Schmeckenbecher. For the summer festival, audiences will hear Gerald Finley, Nina Stemme, Clay Hilley, Tareq Nazmi, and Jochen Schmeckenbecher. Adam Fischer conducts.

Tannhäuser” will star Klaus Florian Vogt, Christian Gerhaher, Jonas Hacker, Martin Snell, Andrés Agudelo, Marlis Petersen, and Alexander Köpeczi. Sebastian Weigle conducts. The summer festival stars Anger, Vogt, Andrè Schuen, and Petersen.
