Sarasota Opera has announced the initial lineup for its 2021 summer movie series, which brings filmed performances of opera, orchestral, and musical theatre productions worldwide to the Sarasota Opera House.

First among the opera selections will be Strauss’ “Der Rosenkavalier,” on June 6. This production was staged at the Festspielhaus in Baden-Baden, Germany. Director Herbert Wernicke and conductor Christian Thielemann lead a cast of renowned artists such as Renée Fleming, Sophie Koch, Diana Damrau, Franz Hawlata, and Jonas Kaufmann.

July 11 will see Mozart’s “La Clemenza di Tito.” This production, staged at the Zürich Opera House, was conducted by Frans Welser-Most and directed by Jonathan Miller. The cast includes Jonas Kaufmann, Eva Mei, Vesselina Kasarova, Malin Hartelius, Liliana Nikiteanu, and Gunther Groissback.

On July 25 will be the earliest version of “Manon Lescaut,” which debuted in Turin in 1893. Conductor Riccardo Chailly and director David Pountney lead a cast including Maria Jose Siri, Massimo Cavalletti, and Roberto Aronica.

Last will be “Orphee et Eurydice,” starring Juan Diego Florez in what was La Scala’s first-ever staging of the work in its French version. Conducted by Michele Mariotti and directed by Hofesh Shechter and John Fulljames, the cast features Christiane Karg, and Fatma Said.

Further programming will be announced in July and August. Seating in the theater is limited to 50 percent capacity, with masks required for unvaccinated audience members, and strongly suggested for everyone.
