Jonas Kaufmann has revealed he is recording “Otello” for Sony Classical.

The tenor posted a photo on Instagram with Antonio Pappano and Carlos Alvarez revealing that he is recording Verdi’s penultimate opera alongside Federica Lombardi in the role of Desdemona.

The new recording comes after Kaufmann’s role debut in 2017 at the Royal Opera. He went on to perform the opera at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich. OperaWire noted of his role debut, “Kaufmann Cements His Legacy As One of History’s Great Otellos.”

Kaufmann’s “Otello” from the Royal Opera was recently released on DVD through Sony Classical and featured Pappano conducting while Alvarez is featured on a DVD of the work from the Salzburg Festival conducted by Riccardo Muti and on a DVD from the Salzburg Easter Festival with Christian Thielemann conducting and Jose Cura singing the title role. Lombardi is set to perform the role of Desdemona this season at the Deutsche Oper Berlin alongside Jorge de Leon.

There is currently no release date but more details are set to be released later.
