Jonas Kaufmann has received an honorary doctorate from the Academy of Music in Kraków.

The ceremony was held on June 12, 2026 and Kaufmann was honored for his impressive artistic achievements, which include performances in the world most prestigious theaters such as The Metropolitan Opera House in New York, Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London, La Scala in Milan, The Vienna State Opera, and The Bavarian State Opera, among others.

The ceremony took place in the “Florianka” auditorium and also saw Mariusz Kwiecień deliver the laudatory speech.

Bass-bartione Tomasz Konieczny was in attendance and said, “A spontaneous reunion with a colleague with whom I have shared many performances throughout my career — Jonas Kaufmann. Today, Jonas was awarded an honorary doctorate by the Academy of Music in Kraków (Akademia Muzyczna im. Krzysztofa Pendereckiego w Krakowie). What a wonderful celebration of music and artistry! My heartfelt congratulations to Jonas and sincere thanks to Professor Mariusz Kwiecień for his outstanding laudation and for presenting this distinguished honor.”
