Jonas Kaufmann, Marina Rebeka, Javier Camarena Among Winners of International Classical Music Awards 2022

The International Classical Music Awards has announced the winners of its 2022 awards, comprised of a body of artists from across the globe.

For the purposes of this article, we will focus on the operatic winners, with a full list of recipients on the company’s website.

In the category of opera, this year’s winner is Prima Classic’s recording of Bellini’s “Il Pirata,” starring Javier Camarena, Marina Rebeka, Franco Vassallo, Antonio Di Matteo, Gustavo De Gennaro, Sonia Fortunato, and the Orchestra e Coro del Teatro Massimo Bellini di Catania.

In the category of Premiere Recordings, the winner is Aparté’s world premiere recording of Salieri’s three-act opera “Armida.” This recording features soloists Lenneke Ruiten, Florie Valiquette, Teresa Iervolino, Ashley Riches, with the Choeur de chamber de Namur with the Les Talens Lyriques orchestra, led by Christophe Rousset.

In the category of Video Performance, the award goes to Bayerische Staatsoper’s filmed production of Korngold’s “Die Tote Stadt.” Conducted by Kirill Petrenko, the cast features Jonas Kaufmann, Marlies Petersen, Andrzej Filonczyk, Jennifer Johnston, Mirjam Mesak, Corinna Scheuerle, Manuel Gunther, and Dean Power, joined by the Chor der Bayerischen Staatsoper and the Bayerisches Staatsorchester.
