Jonas Kaufmann Headlines Bayerische Staatsoper Reopening

By Francisco Salazar

The Bayerische Staatsoper has announced that it will reopen on May 13.

The theater announced that COVID-19 incidence levels are low enough to reopen and as a result, audiences will be able to experience the first act of “Die Walkure” live. The concert, which will also be streamed on the company’s streaming platform, will star Jonas Kaufmann, Lise Davidsen, and Georg Zeppenfeld. Asher Fisch conducts the concert.

The Bayerische Staatsoper has also added an additional performance of the concert on May 16.

Other May productions the company is scheduled to perform include “Lear,” “Paradigma,” The Snow Storm,” and “Schon ist die Welt.” “Lear” will also be streamed on the company’s website.

The Bayerische Staatsoper is among the first German theaters as COVID-19 cases start to decrease throughout the country.
