Jonas Kaufmann, Elizabeth Llewellyn, Christian Gerhaher & Michael Spyres Lead Presto Music’s 2021 Awards Winners

Presto Music has announced its 2021 awards.

Tenor Michael Spyres was awarded for the CD “BariTenor” on the Erato label. The album ranges wide, encompassing repertoire normally assigned to both tenors and baritones. Programming 18 arias by 15 composers, it covers three centuries of opera in Italian, French and German. Marko Letonja conducts the Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg.

The award for DVD/Blu-ray of the Year went to Jonas Kaufmann, Marlis Petersen, Andrej Filonczyk, and Jennifer Johnston for the recording of Korngold’s opera “Die tote Stadt” at the Bayerische Staatsoper on the BSO Recordings label. Kirill Petrenko conducts a production by Simon Stone.

The Complete Edition of the Year award went to baritone Christian Gerhaher for the recording of Complete Lieder by Schumann on the Sony label. The CDs also feature Sibylla Rubens, Camilla Tilling, Wiebke Lehmkuhl, Martin Mitterrutzner and Julia Kleiter, alongside pianist Gerold Huber.

Soprano Elizabeth Llewellyn was awarded in the category World Premiere Recording of the Year for the recorded songs of Samuel Coleridge-Taylor on the Orchid Classics label. Simon Lepper was at a piano.
