Jonas Kaufmann Cancels Performances Of ‘Tosca’ In Paris

By Francisco Salazar

Jonas Kaufmann has canceled performances of Puccini’s ‘”Tosca.”

The Opera de Paris announced that Kaufmann had to “withdraw from the first three performances of ‘Tosca’ due to a violent coughing attack which makes it necessary for him to temporarily refrain from singing. The irritation was found very quickly and therefore the convalescence is expected to be very rapid. He looks forward to coming to Paris as soon as possible.”

As a result, the role of Cavaradossi will be sung by Vittorio Grigolo for the first performance on May 16, 2019 and Marcelo Puente on May 19 and May 22, 2019.

Both singers join Anja Harteros and Željko Lučić in a production by Pierre Audi. Dan Ettinger conducts the production.

Kaufmann returns to the production on May 25 and performs alongside both Anja Harteros and Sonya Yoncheva.
