Jonas Kaufmann Cancels Final Two Performances of ‘La Forza del Destino’ in Munich

By Francisco Salazar

The Bayerische Staatsoper has announced that Stefano La Colla will replace Jonas Kaufmann in the final two performances of “La Forza del Destino” scheduled for Sept. 29 and Oct. 2, 2021.

The news comes as Kaufmann is recovering from a tracheal infection that forced him to cancel the opening performance on Sept. 26 and the opening night opera for all concert on Sept. 17. According to a statement earlier this month, the tenor noted he was advised by the doctors to rest his voice.

La Colla performed the opening night performance on Sept. 26 and once again joins a cast that includes Anja Harteros, George Petean, Ekaterina Semenchuk, Mika Kares, and Ambrogio Maestri. Andrea Battistoni conducts.

Kaufmann returns to the stage in October for a U.S. tour that will include stops in New York, Houston, Ann Arbor, Washington D.C., Miami, Berkeley, and Santa Monica.
