By Francisco Salazar

Jonas Kaufmann has been awarded the Goldenen Johann Strauß 2025.

The tenor took to social media to announce the news and said, “It is an honor to receive this award that has been given to many wonderful artists, including Riccardo Muti, Eliette von Karajan, Otto Schenk, Renate Holm and Heinz Zednik.  I enjoyed celebrating this award last week in Wien, with great food and music.”

Since 2013, the Johann Strauss Society Vienna has awarded the “Goldenen Johann Strauß” annually to individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the preservation of Johann Strauss’s music. The award ceremony always takes place during a gala dinner in the traditional setting of the “Marchfelderhof” restaurant in Deutsch-Wagram.

The award was first given to Leopold Großmann in 2013 and has since been awarded to Werner Resel, Riccardo Muti, Heinz Zednik, Otto Schenk, Riccardo Muti, and Renate Holm, among others.

This season he returns to the Zurich Opera for a production of “Tosca” and will also perform at the Bayerische Staatsoper, Wiener Staatsoper, and Paris Opera.
