Jonas Kaufmann Appointed Intendant of Tiroler Festspiele Erl

By Francisco Salazar

Jonas Kaufmann has been appointed intendant of the Tiroler Festspiele Erl.

The tenor took to social media and said,  “I am happy to share that I have been named Intendant of the Tiroler Festspiele Erl. I look forward to adding this new creative outlet to my continuing work as a performer, starting on September 1st, 2024.”

He added, “I am very much looking forward to the honorable task and hope to be able to lead the Tirol Festival Erl to artistic heights with a combination of Erl tradition and new focus. The fact that I was touched by this music early on through one grandfather – a glowing Wagnerian – and through the other – he spent the last 25 years of his life in Tyrol – this state has been loved since childhood, you could quite believe it call it destiny. How extremely exciting, right here for the first time being allowed to direct destiny behind the scenes!”

The tenor’s initial contract will run through 2030. He will succeed Frankfurt intendant Bernhard Loebe.

Kaufmann is currently preparing his return to the Royal Opera House in a production of “Werther.”
