Jonas Kaufmann Announces New Lieder Album

By Francisco Salazar

Jonas Kaufmann has announced his upcoming album “Selige Stunde.”

The new album with pianist Helmut Deutsch will be released on September 4 and will feature a highly personal selection of lieder by Schubert, Brahms, Strauss, Mahler, and other masters.

Kaufmann recorded the album with Deutsch during the coronavirus lockdown in Germany.

The new album will mark the tenor’s eleventh recording with Sony Classical. The company has also released a number of DVDs for the tenor including performances of “La Forza del Destino,” “Otello,” “Don Carlos,” and “Fidelio.”

The album marks the latest CD with Deutsch, with whom Kaufmann has recorded Wolf’s Italian Liederbuch and Schubert’s “Winterreise,” among others.

Kaufmann recently performed for the Metropolitan Opera’s live concert series and is scheduled to sing a semi-staged production of Verdi’s “Aida” with the Teatro San Carlo di Napoli in Italy.
