Jonas Kaufmann, Andreas Schager, Ricarda Merbeth, Eva-Maria Westbroek, Iain Paterson Lead Opéra de Paris 2020 Ring Cycle Concert Performances

L’Opéra de Paris has announced full casts and dates for the concert performances of Wagner “Der Ring des Nibelungen.” The Ring cycle was initially planned as a series of four fully staged operas but had to be reorganized into concert performances due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic circumstances.

Philippe Jordan will conduct all four concert performances.

The Ring prologue opera “Das Rheingold” will feature Iain Paterson in the role of Wotan, Lauri Vasar as Donner, Matthew Newlin as Froh, Norbert Ernst in the role of Loge, Wilhelm Schwinghammer as Fasolt, Dimitry Ivashchenko as Fafner, Jochen Schmeckenbecher in the role of Alberich, Gerhard Siegel as Mime, Ekaterina Gubanova in the role of Fricka, and Anna Gabler as Freia. The cast also includes Wiebke Lehmkuhl, Tamara Banjesevic, Christina Bock, and Claudia Huckle.

Performance date: Nov. 23, 2020

Die Walküre” will spotlight Jonas Kaufmann in the role of Siegmund, Günther Groissböck as Hunding, Iain Paterson in the role of Wotan, Eva‑Maria Westbroek in the role of Sieglinde, Ricarda Merbeth as Brünnhilde, and Ekaterina Gubanova in the role of Fricka. The cast will be rounded out by Sonja Šarić, Celine Byrne, Natalia Skrycka, Katharina Magiera, Regine Hangler, Julia Rutigliano, Noa Beinart, and Marie‑Luise Dressen.

Performance date: Nov. 24, 2020

Siegfried” will showcase Gerhard Siegel as Mime, Iain Paterson as Der Wanderer, Jochen Schmeckenbecher in the role of Alberich, Dimitry Ivashchenko as Fafner, Ricarda Merbeth in the role of Brünnhilde, Wiebke Lehmkuhl as Erda, Tamara Banjesevic as Die Waldvogel, and Andreas Schager in the title role.

Performance date: Nov. 26, 2020

Finally, “Götterdämmerung” will star Andreas Schager as Siegfried, Johannes Martin Kränzle in the role of Gunther, Jochen Schmeckenbecher as Alberich, Ain Anger as Hagen, and Ricarda Merbeth in the role of Brünnhilde. The cast will be completed by Anna Gabler, Michaela Schuster, Wiebke Lehmkuhl, Tamara Banjesevic, Christina Bock, and Claudia Huckle.
