By David Salazar

John Nelson and tenor Michael Spyres are set to perform a concert of music by Berlioz on Oct. 13 and 14, 2021.

The showcase, which will be performed at the Palais de la Musique et des Congrès, Strasbourg, will feature the Overture de “Béatrice et Bénédict,” “Les Nuits d’Été,” and “Harold en Italie.” Spyres will perform in “Les Nuits d’Été” while violist Timothy Ridout will perform in “Harold en Italie.”

“For this album, we are fortunate to have two of the greatest artists on the planet, Michael Spyres and Timothy Ridout,” Nelson stated in a press statement.

“The works they inhabit are among the most brilliant Berlioz wrote and will be undergirded by the fabulous Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg. What a privilege to oversee such a product!”

Nelson previously recorded Berlioz’s “La Damnation de Faust” and “Les Troyens” with Spyres.

The concert will be streamed on MediciTV and released via Warner’s Erato label in Spring 2022.
