Johanna Wallroth Receives Birgit Nilsson Stipendium

The Birgit Nilsson Foundation has announced the 2021 Birgit Nilsson Stipendium.

The foundation announced that Johanna Wallroth will be this year’s recipient and will receive 200,000 kronor at the ceremony to be held on August 13. Wallroth will also perform in recital as a part of the celebrations for this year’s Birgit Nilsson Days.

Wallroth is a Swedish who took the First Prize in the Mirjam Helin International Singing Competition and joined the Opernstudio of Wiener Staatsoper from the 2020-21 season. She made her operatic debut in 2013 and has performed at the  Ulriksdal Palace Theatre, Stockholm, Vienna’s Schlosstheater Schönbrunn, Moscow’s Gnesin Academy, and at the Norrlandsoperan, Umeå. She has also performed at the Helsinki Music Centre and Savonlinna Festival.

Wallroth’s repertoire includes the works of Mozart, Gluck, and Humperdinck as well as Monteverdi, Donizetti, and Mahler.

Past recipients include Christina Nilsson, Nina Stemme, Malin Byström, Susanne Resmark, and Anna Larsson.
