Johan Reuter to Sing Wotan in ‘Die Walküre’ at Deutsche Oper Berlin

Deutsche Oper Berlin has announced that the Danish bass-baritone Johan Reuter will replace John Lundgren in the role of Wotan in Wagner’s “Die Walküre” on Oct. 4, 2020.

Per the opera house’s official statement, Lundgren will appear on stage, while Reuter will sing the role from the side of the stage.

Reuter has performed the role of Wotan in Munich and Budapest. He is well known for his diverse repertoire and has performed at the Royal Opera House, Salzburg Festival, Metropolitan Opera, Theater an der Wien, and Teatro Real de Madrid, among others.

Reuter will join a cast that includes Brandon Jovanovich in the role of Siegmund, Nina Stemme as Brünnhilde, Lise Davidsen in the role of Sieglinde, Annika Schlicht as Fricka, and Andrew Harris as Hunding.

Deutsche Oper Berlin’s General Music Director Donald C. Runnicles conducts the production by Stefan Herheim.
