Joélle Harvey, Jennifer Johnson Cano, Nikolay Borchev Headline Chamber Music Society’s ‘The Magic of Schubert’ Festival

The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center has announced its Winter Festival entitled “The Magic of Schubert.”

For the purposes of this article, our focus will be solely on vocal performances.

First up will be a concert entitled “Into Eternity” featuring baritone Nikolay Borchev. He will be joined by the Orion String Quartet and pianist Wu Han. Borchev will present “Winterreise” while the quartet takes on Beethoven’s Quartet in F major.

Performance Date: Jan. 22, 2023

Jennifer Johnson Cano will headline “Schubert Forever,” which will also include music by Mendelssohn, Liszt, Previn, Ernst, Mahler, Korngold, and Harbison. Joining her will be pianists Michael Stephen Brown and Gloria Chien, violinists Kristin Lee, Yura Lee, and Sean Lee, and cellist Keith Robinson.

Performance Date: Feb. 3, 2023

Closing out “The Magic of Schubert” will be “From Song,” starring soprano Joélle Harvey. The performance, which will feature music by Schubert, will also star pianist Ken Noda and a number of instrumentalists. Among the works presented are Schubert’s “Der Hirt auf dem Felsen” and his Five German Dances.
