J’Nai Bridges, Yonghoon Lee, Russell Thomas, Diego Torre, Vanessa Goikoetxea Headline Seattle Opera’s 2024-25 Season

“The 2024-25 season really offers something for everybody,” said general director Christina Scheppelmann in an official press statement. “We’re bringing in some of our audiences’ all-time favorite operas, like ‘Tosca’ and ‘The Magic Flute,’ in addition to a pair of remarkable new pieces from some of today’s most acclaimed and imaginative creators. And as always, you’ll see these stories brought to life on stage by a collection of the world’s best performers. Whether it’s on stage or in the community, Seattle Opera is working to bring you music and theater that do exactly what opera should: excite and inspire.”
Here’s a rundown of the lineup.
First up is “Pagliacci” starring Diego Torre, Monica Conesa, Michael Chioldi, and Michael J. Hawk. Carlo Montanari conducts.
Performance Dates: August 3 – 17, 2024
Then comes Tazewell Thompson‘s “Jubilee.” The world premiere stars Tiffany Townsend, Lisa Arrindell, and Sarah Joyce Cooper. Kellen Gray conducts and Thompson directs.
The work tells the story of the historic Fisk Jubilee Singers and features over 40 spirituals.
Performance Dates: Oct. 12 – 25, 2024
Next up is Laura Kaminsky and David Cote’s “Lucidity.” The work “sheds light on the tragedy of dementia and all those it touches. When Lili, an elderly singer and composer, shows signs of dementia, her son gives up a promising career as a concert pianist in order to care for his mother. But what is the connection between music and memory? Facing the challenge of this all-too-human condition demands the utmost in courage and sacrifice.”
Performance Dates: Nov. 21 – 24, 2024
Tenor Robert McPherson rings in the holidays with “A Very Drunken Christmas Carol.”
Performance Dates: Dec. 11-22, 2024
J’Nai Bridges and Russell Thomas headline a concert version of “Les Troyens” under conductor Ludovic Morlot.
Performance Dates: Jan. 17 & 19, 2025
“The Magic Flute” stars Duke Kim, Brandie Sutton, Camille Ortiz, Sharleen Joynt, In Sung Sim, Rodion Pogossov, Tiffany Townsend, and Rodell Rosel.
Performance Dates: Feb. 22 – March 9, 2025
Frederick Ballentine performs in concert.
Performance Dates: April 27, 2025
The season closes with “Tosca” starring two casts. Lianna Haroutounian and Vanessa Goikoetxea share the title role while Yonghoon Lee and Rame Lahaj star as Cavaradossi. Brenna Corner conducts.
