J’Nai Bridges & Sphinx Virtuosi to Tour New Work by Damien Geter & Aaron Dworkin

Mezzo-soprano J’Nai Bridges is set to give the world premiere of Damien Geter and Aaron Dworkin’s “Declaration” as part of the Sphinx Organization’s 30th anniversary and 2026-27 season.
The Organization’s nationwide tour is titled “American Dialogues” and features works by Rachel McFarlane, Roberto Sierra, Damien Geter, Jessie Montgomery, Maurice Ravel, and Igor Stravinsky. Also performing is violinist Amaryn Olmeda.
Bridges and Sphinx Virtuosi, the organization’s self-conducted string orchestra kick off the tour with the world premiere of “Declaration” at University of Notre Dame on Oct. 14. Other stops include Carnegie Hall in New York, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Oklahoma, Massachusetts, North Carolina, Arizona, Illinois, and Washington. The tour runs through March 3, 2027.
Geter’s “Declaration” is written for string orchestra and mezzo-soprano. It was commissioned by the Sphinx Organization, Carnegie Hall, and the New World Symphony. The composer states that the work was “born of two commemorations: the 30th anniversary of the Sphinx Organization and the 250th anniversary of the United States of America — two milestones that, in their convergence, make the same declaration: The work continues.”
Also taking place this season is the “30th Annual Sphinx Competition” and “SphinxConnect: Legacy Forward.” For the first time, the recipients of the 2027 Sphinx Medals of Excellence will be awarded live at “SphinxConnect.” Both events will take place Jan. 20-23 in Detroit.
