J’Nai Bridges, Joyce DiDonato, Davóne Tines Headline Washington Performing Arts’ 2021-22 Season

Washington Performing Arts has announced its 2021-22 season.

For the purposes of this article, we will only be focusing on vocal performances.

“Living the Dream… Singing the Dream” will feature the Washington Performing Arts Gospel Choirs under the direction of Michele Fowlin and Theodore Thorpe III. The concert, which will be a tribute to the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., will also feature The Choral Arts Society of Washington under the direction of Scott Tucker.

Performance Date: Jan. 30, 2022

J’Nai Bridges will join forces with the Sphinx Symphony Orchestra and Exigence Vocal Ensemble and the Members of The Washington Chorus under Tito Muñoz. The performance will include Joel Thompson’s “Seven Last Words of the Unarmed” as well as music by Coleridge-Taylor, Carlos Simon, and others.

Performance Date: Feb. 1, 2022

Bass-baritone Davóne Tines will perform music from the Roman Catholic Mass, juxtaposing the music of Bach with that of Caroline Shaw, Tyshawn Sorey, and others. He will be joined by pianist Lester Green.

Performance Date: March 15, 2022

Joyce DiDonato will present “Eden” alongside Il Pomo d’Oro.

Performance Date: April 24, 2022

The Washington Performing Arts Gospel Choirs under the direction of Michele Fowlin and Theodore Thorpe III will headline the “Season Finale.”

Performance Date: June 11, 2022
