Jihoon Son wins Montserrat Caballé Competition

South Korean tenor Jihoon Son won the XVII Concurso Internacional de Canto Montserrat Caballé, which was held on Nov. 7 at the Teatro Real de Madrid.

The tenor took home the first prize which includes 15.000€.

The second prize went to South Korean soprano Sarah Yang and Russian soprano Anna Cabrera who both won 6.000€.

Finally, the third prize went to the Brazilian soprano Marcela Rahal who took home 3.000€.

The award from the Festival Castell de Peralada went to tenor Jihoon Son, while the Teatro Real de Madrid and Gran Teatre del Liceu went to soprano Anna Cabrera. A 2.000€ award, offered by soprano Saioa Hernández and tenor Francesco Pio Galasso, was awarded to Russian soprano Elizaveta Kulagina.

This year’s jury was led by Fernando Sans Riviere, Joan Matabosch, Víctor García de Gomar, Isabel Rey, and Roger Alier.
