
Jessica Reynolds & Charlotte Rampling to Star in Opera Drama ‘Maya Butterfly’

Opera will be back on the big screen with the new film “Maya Butterfly,” which is set to star Jessica Reynolds and Charlotte Rampling.
Variety is reporting that the film will be an Irish psychological drama that is being described as “Tár” meets “Sound of Metal.”
“Maya Butterfly” tells the story of a rising soprano who is secretly losing her hearing and must fight to survive the opening week of a radical opera production, until the truth threatens to destroy both her career and her identity.
The project is being produced by Hail Mary Pictures with producers Conor Barry and Richard Bolger with funding from Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland, Northern Ireland Screen and Yellowmoon. Patrick O’Neill, Paul Kennedy, and Bernard Michaux also serve as producers. Executive producers are Atilla Salih Yücer, Ronan Flynn, Gillian Cooper and Greg Martin.
Irish opera director Edwina Casey making her directing debut.
Principal photography is now underway, with filming to take place on location in the National Opera House in Wexford and Belfast.
