Jessica Pratt & Katarina Dalayman Headline Victorian Opera’s 2019 Season

The Victorian Opera has announced its 2019 Season.

In a press release, Artistic Director Richard Mills said, “Victorian Opera reimagines the potential of opera through a diverse program, ranging from the epic richness of Wagner’s ‘Parsifal’ to new operas made by and for Victorians.”

The 2019 season opens with Wagner’s final opera “Parsifal” in a new production at the Palais Theatre. The new production by Australian director Roger Hodgman is set to star Burkhard Fritz, Katarina Dalayman, Peter Rose and revered Melbourne baritone Derek Welton. Richard Mills conducts.

Performance Dates: Feb. 20 – 24, 2019

The season continues with “Alice Through the Opera Glass” at Arts Centre Melbourne, Playhouse. The work is slated to gear younger audiences in for a unique experience.

Performance Dates: June 14 – 15, 2019

“A Little Night Music” follows. The Sondheim classic returns after years and is slated to star Ali McGregor, Simon Gleeson, Nancye Hayes, and Samuel Dundas. Stuart Maunder directs the work with Phoebe Briggs conducting.

Performance Dates: June 27 – July 6, 2019

Soprano superstar Jessica Pratt and mezzo-soprano Daniela Barcellona team up for an evening of Heroic Bel Canto at Arts Centre Melbourne. The evening will see thrilling vocal fireworks in some of Bel Canto’s most beloved works.

Performance Date: July 14, 2019

Victorian Opera celebrates the world premiere of “The Selfish Giant,” a new opera based on Oscar Wilde’s fairy tale, at Gasworks Theatre, Albert Park. Two former Victorian Opera Young Artists, composer Simon Bruckard and librettist Emma Muir-Smith have adapted Wilde’s literary gem and it will be directed by Cameron Menzies.

Performance Dates: Oct. 17 – 19, 2019

Rossini’s “The Barber of Seville” concludes the season with Chiara Amarù as Rosina and an Australian cast that includes José Carbó, Warwick Fyfe, and Brenton Spiteri. Elizabeth Hill directs a new production with Richard Mills conducting.

Performance Dates: Nov. 21-Dec. 14, 2019
