Jessica Pratt, Anna Pirozzi & José Bros Highlight Opera De Ovideo’s 2019-20 Season

The Opera de Oviedo has announced its 2019-20 season featuring five productions and a number of important international artists. Here is a look!

The season opens with Wagner’s “Götterdämmerung” with Mikhail Vekua as Siegfried, Elisabete Matos as Brunnhilde, Boaz Daniel as Gunther, Zoltan Nagy as Alberich, Taras Shtonda as Hagen, Berna Perles as Gutrune, and Agnieszka Rehlis as Waltraute. The new production by Carlos Wagner will be conducted by Christoph Gedschold.

Performance Dates: Sept. 10-21, 2019

Handel’s “Rinaldo” is set to be directed by Kobie Van Rensburg with a cast that includes Xavier Sabata, Paola Gardina, Lenneke Ruiten, Rupert Enticknap, Matthew Brook, Carmen Romeu, Víctor Cruz, and María Martín. Aarón Zapico conducts.

Performance Dates: Oct.6-12, 2019

Two casts highlight Verdi’s “Un Ballo in Maschera” with José Bros and Giordano Lucà sharing the role of Gustavo. Anna Pirozzi and Forooz Razavi will alternate as Amelia, while Juan Jesús Rodríguez and Luis Cansino will share the role of Renato. Judit Kutasi and Yulia Mennibaeva will portray Ulrica and Inés Ballesteros and Belén Roig will round out the cast as Oscar.

Roberto Rizzi Brignoli will conduct the production by Fabio Ceresa.

Performance Dates: Nov. 14-23, 2019

Diego Torre, Maria Katzarava, and John Lundgren star in a new double bill with Leoncavallo’s “I Pagliacci” and Zemlinsky’s “Eine florentinische Tragödie.” The duo of operas will be directed by Guy Joosten with Will Humburg conducting.  Maite Alberola, Robert Mellon, Juan Noval Moro, Isaac Galán, and Guido Bardi also star.

Performance Dates: Dec. 15-21, 2019

Jessica Pratt brings her signature interpretation of Donizetti’s “Lucia di Lammermoor” to Oviedo with a cast that includes Celso Albelo, Andrei Kymach, and Simón Orfila. Nicola Berloffa direct the production.

Sara Blanch also sings the title role while Alejandro del Cerro alternates as Edgardo.  Giacomo Sagripanti and Luigi Mazzocchi alternate at the pit.
