Jennifer Zetlan to Headline ‘Ellen West’ At Prototype Festival 2020
By David SalazarJennifer Zetlan is set to take on the title role in the New York City premiere of Ricky Ian Gordon and Frank Bidart’s “Ellen West” at the Prototype Festival on Jan. 14-19, 2020.
Zetlan interpreted the role in the world premiere of the opera during the summer of 2019 at Saratoga Springs.
“Ellen West is the pseudonym of a real woman who lived at the turn of the 20th century,” Zetlan told OperaWire in an interview ahead of the world premiere. “She struggled for a large portion of her adult life with various disordered eating issues and lived in a residential sanitarium while under the treatment of Dr. Ludwig Binswanger, who was a pupil of Freud.”
Zetlan will join Nathan Gunn and the Aeolus Quartet in the performance, which will be conducted by Lidiya Yankovskaya and directed by Emma Griffin.
