Anna Pirozzi has canceled her participation in “Aida” at the Gran Teatre del Liceu during the 2019-20 season.

The soprano, who has been performing the role at the Arena di Verona, has noted that she will be retiring the role after the summer 2019 performances.

Instead, Jennifer Rowley will be taking over the production as the titular heroine. The American soprano will join a cast that includes Judit Kutasi, Luciano Ganci, Marko Mimica, and Franco Vassalo. Rowley will rotate the title role with Angela Meade, who will also get a slew of performances. The production by Thomas Guthrie will be conducted by Gustavo Gimeno.

Rowley is currently engaged with a production of “Les Huguenots” at the Semperoper Dresden. She is then slated for her signature role of “Tosca” at Opera San Antonio, followed by the “Aida” production in Barcelona. She is also set to appear in “La Bohème” and “Tosca” at the Met in 2019-20 season.
