By David SalazarThe Göttingen International Händel Festival has announced its 2023 season with the theme of “Hellas!”
The season kicks off with Händel’s “Hercules.” The work will star Andreas Wolf in the title role and feature Vivica Genaux, Anna Dennis, Nick Pritchard, and Lena Sutor-Wernich. George Petrou conducts.
Performance Dates: May 5 – 22, 2023
“Semele” will star Marie Lys, Jeremy Ovenden, Vivica Genaux, Rafal Tomkiewicz, Riccardo Novaro, and Marilena Strifombola. George Petrou conducts. There will also be a family presentation.

Mezzo-soprano Laïla Salome Fischer will present “Agrippina: A Baroque-Jazz Guide” alongside Il Giratempo and jazz trumpeter Pascal Klewer.

The Göttingen Händel Competition is set for late May and will feature two Prize Winner Concerts.

The Kammerchor Athen will present sacred and secular works by Leondaritis, Enian, Antoniou, Adamis, Pappas, and Hatzidakis, among others.

Countertenor Valer Sabadus will perform alongside Spark. They will present music by Vivaldi, Händel, Schumann, and Satie, among others.

Georg Anton Benda’s “Medea” will star mezzo-soprano Lena Suto-Wernich, actor Anna Schudlt as Medea, and the FestspielOrchester Göttingen. George Petrou conducts.

La Camerata Chromatica will perform music by Frescobaldi, Vicentino, Gesualdi, di Lasso, de Rore, Lacorcia, and Sweelinck.

Soprano Fanie Antonelou will appear in “Ex Silentio.” The showcase will feature music by Leondaritis, Cavalino, de Laudis, Padovano, and Händel.

Soprano Jeanine De Bique will perform alongside Concerto Köln. They will present music by Händel, Graun, Vinci, and Telemann.
