Jean-François Borras & Stéphanie d’Oustrac to Star in Opéra de Monte-Carlo’s ‘Werther’

The Opéra de Monte-Carlo is set to present Massenet’s “Werther” this February.

The showcase, which runs between Feb. 20, 2022 and Feb. 26, 2022, will star Jean-François Borras in the title role with Stéphanie d’Oustrac as Charlotte. Jean-François Lapointe will take on the role of Albert with Jennifer Coucier as Sophie.

Other cast members include Marc Barrand, Reinaldo Macias, Luca Vianello, and Laura Maria Romo Contreras.

The opera will be conducted by Henrik Nánasi with Jean-Louis Grinda directing the production.

“Werther” tells the story of a young man, Werther, who falls hopeless in love with Charlotte, who is already betrothed to Albert. When he realizes that he cannot be with Charlotte, Werther opts for the most extreme way of forgetting her.

“Werther” will be followed by productions of “Wozzeck,” “Manon Lescaut,” “La Damnation de Faust,” and “Lakmé” as well as a recital by Sir Bryn Terfel.
