On Monday, Sept. 14, Javier Camarena jumped in last minute for the Wiener Staatsoper’s opening of Donizetti’s “L’Elisir d’Amore.”

The tenor, who is currently in Vienna rehearsing “La Fille du Regiment” replaced Liparit Avetisyan, who was ill.

The opening night marked Pretty Yende’s debut at the Wiener Staatsoper and also reunited Camarena and Yende, who have collaborated at the Metropolitan Opera in productions of “Il Barbiere di Siviglia,” “I Puritani,” “The Pearl Fishers,” and “La Fille du Regiment.” The cast also included Nicola Alaimo and Clemens Unterreiner.

Liparit Avetisyan is expected to return to the production on Sept. 17 and 21. Meanwhile, “La File du Regiment” will open on Sept. 20 and Camarena will join a cast that includes Jane Archibald and Carlos Alvarez.
