ABAO Bilbao Opera has announced its 2023-24 season, which will represent the 72^nd in its history.

The season kicks off with “Roméo et Juliette” starring Javier Camarena and Nadine Sierra in the title role. Lorenzo Passerini conducts a production by Giorgia Guerra.

Performance Dates: Oct. 21 – 30, 2023

Elena Sancho Pereg and Joel Prieto will headline “L’Elisir d’Amore” with Iván López-Reynoso conducting a production by Marina Bianchi. Other castmates include Paolo Bordogna and Pablo Ruiz. A later performance, which is presented as Opera Berri, will star Helena Orcoyen and David Alegret.

Performance Dates: Nov. 18 – 25, 2023

Mariano Baudin will direct Mozart’s “Die Entführung aus dem Serail” with a cast starring Jessica Pratt, Leonor Bonilla, Mikeldi Atxalandabaso, and Moisés Martín. Lucia Marín conducts.

Performance Dates: Jan. 20 – 29, 2024

Amartuvshin Enkhbat, Sabina Puértola, and Ismael Jordi will headline “Rigoletto.” Daniel Oren conducts a production by Miguel del Arco.

Performance Dates: Feb 17 – 26, 2024 

Miren Urbieta, Marina Monzó, and Manel Esteve star in “La Bohème.” Pedro Halffter conducts a production directed by Leo Nucci.

Performance Dates: May 18 – 27, 2024

The Company will also present 17 performances for its ABAO Txiki season. The company will showcase works such as “El flautista de Hamelin,” “El gato con botas,” “Andersen, el patito feo,” and “Hirira.”
