Javier Camarena, Aida Garifullina & Tomasz Konieczny Lead Top 5 to See Internationally This Weekend (2/14-16)

This weekend is Valentine’s Day so we tried to choose works with great love stories. Here are this weekend’s top five operas to see!

Don Carlos – Opera Royal de Wallonie, Belgium

Gregory Kunde sings the final performance of Verdi’s epic in the title role. He is joined by Ildebrando D’Arcangelo, Kate Aldrich, Lionel Lhote, and Roberto Scandiuzzi. Paolo Arrivabeni conducts the production by Stefano Mazzonis di Pralafera.

Adriana Lecouvreur – Teatro Carlo Felice, Italy

Amarilli Nizza  and Valentina Boi share the title role in Cilea’s masterwork alongside Fabio Armiliato and Gianluca Terranova who alternate the role of Maurizio. Judit Kutasi and Giuseppina Piunti sing the role of the Princess of Bouillon, while Devid Cecconi and Alberto Mastromarino rotate Michonnet. Valerio Galli conducts the production Ivan Stefanutti.

La Fille du Régiment – INBAL, Mexico

Javier Camarena returns to the role of Tonio with which has broken records around the world. He is joined by Rebeca Olvera in the title role, Josué Cerón, and María Luisa Tamez. Iván López Reynoso conducts the production by César Piña.

Sadko – Bolshoi Theatre – Russia

Aida Garifullina leads a stellar cast in Rimsky Korsakov and Vladimir Belsky’s opera. Timur Zangiev conducts the production by Dmitri Tcherniakov. The production also includes costumes by Elena Zaitseva.

Die Walküre – Teatro Real, Spain

Pablo Heras-Casado conducts two casts in Wagner’s monumental work. Robert Carsen directs the production with the first cast starring Stuart Skelton, René Pape, Adrianne Pieczonka, Ricarda Merbeth, and Tomasz Konieczny. The second cast features Christopher Ventris, Ain Anger, James Rutherford, Elisabet Strid, and Ingela Brimberg.
