Classical Movements has announced a Garden Concert Series entitled “Sounds of Hope & Harmony.”

The series will feature 18 concerts at the Secret Garden of the Rectory on Princess Street in Alexandria, Virginia. For the purposes of this piece, we will focus on opera and choral performances.

The first major program for opera lovers is “Prague Comes to Washington,” an evening of Art Song and Opera. The showcase will feature baritone Javier Arrey and soprano Kaylee Norris as they take on music by Mozart, Dvorak, Stravinsky, Brahms, Liszt, Wolf, and Beethoven, alongside pianist Taylor Hutchinson.

Performance Date: August 1, 2020

“An Evening of Grand Opera, Italian and American Art Songs” will star tenor Issachah Savage and pianist Joy Schreier. The duo will perform music by Verdi, Wagner, Strauss, Tosti, Donaudy, and Margaret Bonds.

Performance Date: August 15, 2020

The Choir of Hope & Harmony will present “A Brand New Day,” with music by Byrd, Britten, Panufnik, Coleridge-Taylor, and Barnett, among others.

Performance Date: Sept. 12, 2020

The events are the latest live opera and choral events to be announced in the post-lockdown U.S. following the Northern Lights Festival’s production of “Tosca” on July 17 and 19, as well as the Phoenicia Festival of the Voice’s production of “Tosca” on August 29.
