The season opens with “Yukio Mishima’s Hanjo” as created by Toshio Hosokawa. The reality-bending opera will be directed by Luca Veggetti and conducted by Neal Goren. The performance will feature an excerpt from the opera as a prelude to its U.S. premiere at the NYU Skirball in the fall of 2022. The work premiered at the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence back in 2004 and has appeared at a number of European opera houses and two Japanese concert halls.

Performance Date: Sept. 14, 2022

“Note to a friend” will have its world premiere. The new work by David Lang and Ryunosuke Akutagawa will feature Theo Bleckmann and a String Quartet. The work will be directed by Yoshi Oida.
