Conductor Jan Latham-Koenig has pleaded guilty to two child sex offences, including messaging someone he believed to be a 14-year-old boy.

The Standard is reporting that during an appearance at the Westminster Magistrates’ Court, the 70-year-old conductor admitted that he arranged sex acts with someone he thought was a teenager, but was, in fact, an undercover police officer.

According to prosecutor Jason Seetal, the defendant initially started chatting with an undercover officer posing as a child through a dating app, before progressing to WhatsApp. He also added that Latham-Koenig and the child were to meet at a Cafe Nero in Victoria train station and was arrested at the station.

Latham-Koenig was arrested in January following an investigation by detectives in the force’s specialist crime command. He was charged with intentionally arranging or facilitating an act of sexual activity with a child between Dec. 9, 2023 and Jan. 11, 2024.

The conductor, who was the Teatro Colon’s Music Director, was let go by the theater which said, “Faced with the news of an extremely serious complaint against Jan Latham-Koenig, in the United Kingdom, the Teatro Colón has decided to separate him from all current and future activities that he carried out within the Institution.”
