Jamie Barton, Nicole Heaston, Frederick Ballentine Feature in Houston Grand Opera’s Double-Bill of ‘Bon Appétit!’ and ‘The Impresario’

Houston Grand Opera is set to present on November 27, 2020, a double-bill of “Bon Appétit!” and “The Impresario.”

The first work is based on an episode of a children’s TV show called “The French Chef.” This one-woman opera is written by Lee Hoiby, directed by Ryan KcKinny, and will feature renowned mezzo Jamie Barton in the role of Julia Child as she takes the audience through the baking of a cake.

Next, Mozart’s “The Impresario” will receive an English retelling from playwright Jim Luigs. The cast includes soprano Nicole Heaston as Yolanda Cantrell, soprano Nova Thomas in the title role, tenor Frederick Ballentine as Wiley Stonecrop, soprano Raven McMillon as Rona Richards, and bass William Guanbo Su as Bowie Krebs. The work will be conducted by HGo Principal Guest Conductor Eun Sun Kim, and directed by General and Artistic Director of OPERA San Antonio, E. Loren Meeker.

Both works will be streamed back-to-back and will be available to watch free for one month after its release.
