Jamie Barton Cancels ‘Il Trovatore’ Performance Due to COVID-19

By Francisco Salazar

Jamie Barton has canceled the June 8 performance of “Il Trovatore” at the Royal Opera House.

The mezzo took to social media and said, “Y’all… It’s not Azucena-level drama, but your girl’s been going through it a bit herself. A chest cold that required 5 days of full vocal rest, gnarly food poisoning the night before opening, the worst seasonal allergies I’ve ever seen, and now…a positive COVID test. I’m so sad to miss tomorrow’s Trovatore at ROH but I’ll do everything in my power to be back for Tuesday’s show – including logging off now to rest up!”

She added, “please consider this your friendly reminder that COVID is Still A Thing – and take care!!”

The Royal Opera has yet to announce a replacement for the role of Azucena.

“Il Trovatore” is set to star Marina Rebeka, Riccardo Massi, and Ludovic Tézier. Sir. Antonio Pappano conducts the new production by Adele Thomas.
