Jakub Józef Orliński Replaces Elizabeth DeShong In Glyndebourne Festival’s ‘Rinaldo’

Elizabeth DeShong has canceled her participation in Glyndebourne Festival’s in Handel’s “Rinaldo.”

The company announced that due to personal reasons the mezzo would not be able to perform in the production. As a result, Polish countertenor Jakub Józef Orliński will replace DeShong in the title role.

The countertenor, who was due to sing Eustazio in the production, will be replaced by American countertenor Patrick Terry, a member of Covent Garden’s Jette Parker Young Artists Programme.

Both countertenors join a cast that includes Tim Mead, Giulia Semenzato, Frederick Jones, Brandon Cedel, Kristina Mkhitaryan, and Sofia Larsson. Maxim Emelyanychev conducts the cast with director Robert Carsen directing.

DeShong returns to the stage this fall for Suzuki in Puccini’s “Madama Butterfly” at the Metropolitan Opera.

“Rinaldo” opens on August 8 and 25, 2019.
