OPERA America Onstage has announced its 2023-24 season with a lineup of big name artists

Terence Blanchard, Anthony Davis, Samantha Hankey, and Jake Heggie are just a few of the luminaries included in this year’s season.

Audiences can either attend events in-person at OPERA America’s National Opera Center in New York, or watch the free livestreams.

Here’s what OPERA America Onstage has in store.

The season opens with renowned composer Jake Heggie in Discussion. Heggie will talk about his decade-spanning opera career as his work, “Dead Man Walking,” debuts at the Met.

Event Date: Sept. 27, 2023

In Discussion continues with another famed composer, Anthony Davis. The composer will discuss his opera journey from 1980s premieres, to winning the Pulitzer, and his Met debut.

Event Date: Oct. 19, 2023

In December, OPERA America will hold the 2023 Awards for Digital Excellence, which will celebrate the best operatic work created for digital platforms.

Event Date: Dec. 4, 2023

Also in December, Polymath Rajendra Ramoon Maharaj will showcase his works and discuss his approach to opera in this first installment of Creators in Concert.

Event Date: Dec. 14, 2023

The New Year kicks off with another Creators in Concert event. New works by Canadian artists will be presented in collaboration with the Association for Opera in Canada.

Event Date: Jan. 9, 2024

The In Discussion events continue with lauded mezzo-soprano Samantha Hankey talking about creating and sustaining an international career in opera.

Event Date: Feb. 29, 2024

March’s episode of In Discussion features famed librettists, Deborah Brevoort, and Stephanie Fleischmann. The artists will discuss libretto creation and their award-winning work.

Creators in Concert returns with a showcase of new work by OPERA America’s IDEA Opera Resident Artists: composers Laura Jobin-Acosta, Bonita Oliver, Yosvany Terry, and Qian Yi.

Event Date: Apr. 11, 2024

Closing out the season is celebrated composer Terence Blanchard in Conversation. Blanchard will discuss his jazz roots and journey to the Met Opera.
