‘Jacqueline’ & ‘Sanctuary Song’ Headline Tapestry Opera’s 2024-25 Season

Tapestry Opera has unveiled its 2024-25 season.

“We are thrilled to unveil our 2024-25 season as we celebrate 45 years of Tapestry Opera with an exciting and dynamic array of productions welcoming performing-arts-loving audiences to our newly built downtown home. It’s a remarkable moment for Tapestry and Toronto to add a vital new venue to the independent performing arts scene,” said Artistic and General Director Michael Mori in an official press release. “We invite audiences of all ages to join us as we celebrate our rich history and open the doors to our future, celebrating the transformative power of music and storytelling in the heart of Toronto.”

First up is “Jacqueline” by Luna Pearl Woolf and Royce Vavrek. The opera, which explores the meteoric rise and tragic fall of cellist Jacqueline Du Pré, will be directed by Michael Hidetoshi Mori and stars soprano Marnie Breckenridge as the famed cellist. She is joined by cellist Matt Haimovitz.

Performance Dates: Feb. 20 – 23, 2025

Next up is the community event, “In Concert with Tapestry & Friends.”

Performance Dates: March 22, 2025

Abigail Richardson and Marjorie Chan’s “Sanctuary Song” follows. The opera, which explores the story of Sydney the elephant and her journey to a Tennessee sanctuary, features a production by director Michael Mori. Greg Oh conducts the production.

Performance Dates: May 9 – 25, 2025

Canada’s finest Black opera artists will get the spotlight in “In Concert with Obsidian Theatre Company.”

Performance Dates: June 14, 2025
