Iwona Sobotka, Mariusz Godlewski, Miles Mykkanen, Jonathan Michie, Joseph Leppek Headline Chicago Opera Theater’s 2022-23 Season

Chicago Opera Theater has announced its 2022-23 season, which will celebrate the company’s 50th anniversary.

The season opens with Szymanowski’s “King Roger.” The work will be presented in partnership with Lira Ensemble as well as Apollo Chorus. Lidiya Yankovskaya, who has extended her contract with the company through 2024, will conduct with Dylan Evans directing.

The cast includes Iwona Sobotka, Mariusz Godlewski, Alissa Anderson, and David Cangelosi.

Performance Dates: Nov. 18 & 20, 2022

Stephen Sposito will direct a production of “Albert Herring” with a cast starring Miles Mykkanen, Whitney Morrison, Justin Berkowitz, Bill McMurray, Teresa Castillo, Sam Wiser, Boya Wei, Alissa Anderson, and Leah Dexter. Dame Jane Glover conducts.

Performance Dates: Jan. 26-29, 2023

The company will world premiere “The Life and Death(s) of Alan Turing.” Lidiya Yankovskaya conducts a cast headlined by Jonathan Michie, Joseph Leppek, Teresa Castillo, David Salsbery, and Justin Berkowitz. Peter Rothstein directs.

Performance Dates: March 23-26, 2023

Closing out the season will be a collaboration with Music of Remembrance, which will present a new opera by Jake Heggie and Gene Scheer. The work will be paired with “Another Sunrise,” by both composers. Ryan McKinny and Caitlin Lynch will star in these works.

Performance Dates: May 27 & 28, 2023 

The company will also present “The Cook-off” by Shawn Okpebholo and Mark Campbell. The comic opera will be composed and developed throughout the season, climaxing in a concert performance in Spring 2023 with the company’s Apprentice artists.
