IVAI & ICAV Announce Summer 2019 Programming & Performances

The International Vocal Arts Institute (IVAI) and the Institut Canadien D’Art Vocal (ICAV) have announced their slates for New York and Montréal.

First up will be IVAI’s New York showcase, which takes place between June 12 and 23, 2019. The program, which is run by Music Director Paul Nadler and Artistic Director Joan Dornemann will feature a series of masterclasses and concerts.

Dornemann will kick things off with a Masterclass on June 13. A day later, soprano Diana Soviero will give her own masterclass. Ken Benson will present the final such event on June 19, 2019.

IVAI will present two aria concerts on June 15 and 17 followed by an International Song Concert on June 18, 2019. An American Art Song performance is set for June 22, 2019. There will also be two performances of Opera Duets, Trios, and Ensembles set for the 20th and 21st.

ICAV’s 16th Festival d’Art Vocal is set to take place between July 22 and August 9, 2019. It will feature masterclasses by Judith Forst (July 22), Dornemann (July 29), and leading tenor Matthew Polenzani (July 21).

There will be four recital programs. “La Voix est Juste!,” will be presented on July 26, followed by a performance about the World of Opera on July 27. On August 2, the festival will showcase scenes from Mozart’s early works. On August 5, audiences will get a chance to experience French music.

The festival will climax with a performance of Leoncavallo’s “La Bohème” on August 7, followed by a Gala concert on August 9, 2019. “La Bohème” will be conducted by Nadler and directed by Joshua Major.
